Replacing The Front Tire (With Solid Rubber Tire)
Changing the front tire to a solid rubber tire is a great option if you have had issues with flat tires. The front wheel of a Levy Scooter is the front motor so it is important to be cautious when changing out the tire. The wheel can be removed from the front fork, but the wire connecting the motor should stay connected.
What you'll need:
- Tire Pry
- Solid Tire: Purchase here
- Needle Nose pliers
- Pot of Hot Water
- Bench Vise
Written Instructions:
- Your first step is to start warming up your tire. Place it in a pot of hot water and let it warm up for around 10 minutes. This will allow us to stretch it over the rim of the wheel more easily.
- While your tire is warming, you'll need to take off your front wheel. Remove the two side fenders. Loosen the bolts on both sides of the wheel until it is able to pop out from the scooter. The wire running down and attaching into the motor may need to be loosened so that it can be slipped out of the scooter. When the scooter is folded down, you will see a wire coming out of the stem. Pull it slightly out of the stem and feed it down towards the motor so that you have some slack and can pull the motor out.
- When taking off the previous tire, we recommend having a bench vise. When placing the wheel in the vise, make sure the vise is clamping the two flat sides of the bolt so it's threads are not ruined. Place the wheel in the vice and remove the previous tire using the tire prys. If you need an idea of how to do this, check out the video below.
- This step usually needs two people. Have one person take your warmed up solid tire and hold one side down over the rim. Have the other persons take the prys, push them under the tire on the other side from where your partner is holding down, and push the end of the prys forwards so that the tire goes up and over the rim.
- Once you manage to get the tire onto the rim, you will need to get some vice grip pliers and fit the tires so that they are sealed with the rim.
- And now you are done! You just need to re-attach the motor to the scooter, re-attach the fenders, and you are all set! When re-attaching the motor to the scooter, remember to pull the wire up to take out its slack that you created back in step 2. Feed that slack back up into the stem.
Please see the video below for a step by step of the process.
