Email Integration Setup

Connect your support email to Relay. Incoming emails become tickets, and you can reply directly from Relay.

Overview

Email integration enables:

  • Automatic ticket creation from emails
  • Reply to customers via email
  • Track delivery and opens
  • Maintain email threading

Setup Options

Option 1: Email Forwarding (Simplest)

Forward emails from your existing inbox to Relay:

  1. Get your Relay forwarding address from Settings → Integrations → Email
  2. Set up forwarding in your email provider
  3. Test by sending an email

Option 2: Direct IMAP Connection

Connect Relay directly to your email:

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Email
  2. Click Connect via IMAP
  3. Enter your email credentials:
    • Email address
    • IMAP server
    • IMAP port
    • Username
    • Password (or app password)
  4. Test connection
  5. Save

Gmail Setup

Enable IMAP

  1. Open Gmail settings
  2. Go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  3. Enable IMAP
  4. Save changes

App Password (Recommended)

If you have 2FA enabled:

  1. Go to Google Account → Security
  2. Under "2-Step Verification," click App passwords
  3. Generate a password for "Mail"
  4. Use this password in Relay

Outbound Email

Using Resend (Default)

Relay uses Resend for reliable email delivery:

  • High deliverability
  • Tracking included
  • No setup required

Custom SMTP (Optional)

Send from your own email server:

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Email → Outbound
  2. Enter SMTP settings
  3. Test delivery

Configuration

From Address

Configure the email address replies come from:

  • Use your support email
  • Or use Relay's domain

Email Templates

Customize outgoing email appearance:

  • Header/footer
  • Signature
  • Branding

Threading

Relay maintains email threads:

  • Replies thread properly
  • History preserved
  • Standards-compliant headers

Testing

Verify Inbound

  1. Send test email to your support address
  2. Check Relay inbox for new ticket
  3. Verify subject and content

Verify Outbound

  1. Reply to test ticket
  2. Check delivery
  3. Verify appearance

Troubleshooting

"Emails not creating tickets"

  • Check forwarding/IMAP configuration
  • Verify Relay connection status
  • Check spam filters

"Replies not sending"

  • Check outbound configuration
  • Verify email isn't bouncing
  • Check activity log for errors

"Threading broken"

  • Ensure email headers preserved
  • Customer may have started new email
  • Consider merging tickets
