Is It Normal for My Electric Scooter Charger to Get Hot?
If you've noticed that your Levy electric scooter charger feels hot during or after charging, don't worry — this is completely normal and does not pose a safety risk.
Why Does the Charger Get Hot?
Levy chargers operate at 2 amps and are designed without a built-in cooling fan. This means the charger dissipates heat through its casing during the charging process. It's normal for the charger to feel warm or even hot to the touch, especially after several hours of charging.
This is standard behavior for compact, fanless chargers and is not a sign of a malfunction.
Is It Safe?
Yes. All Levy chargers are UL certified, meaning they have been rigorously tested and approved for safety by Underwriters Laboratories — one of the most respected safety certification organizations in the world. UL certification ensures the charger meets strict standards for electrical safety, fire protection, and performance.
Charging Best Practices
While your charger is safe to use, here are a few best practices to follow:
Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface (such as tile, concrete, or a desk)
Keep the charger in a well-ventilated area — avoid covering it with blankets or clothing
Unplug the charger once your battery is fully charged
Do not use a damaged charger or one with frayed cables
Do I Need a Third-Party Charger?
No. We recommend using the official Levy charger that came with your scooter. It is specifically designed for your battery and has been safety tested. Third-party chargers may not have the same safety certifications and could potentially damage your battery or void your warranty.
If you have any concerns about your charger or need a replacement, please contact our support team and we'll be happy to help.
